Police believe they have solved an eight-year-old homicide, where the victim’s body was found in Pitt Meadows.
On April 30, 2018, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP received a report of a body found in a rural area of Pitt Meadows. Police found a deceased man, who was later identified as 43-year-old Ian Roberts of Delta.
Earlier that morning, at approximately 6 a.m., Langley RCMP recovered a red 1996 GMC Jimmy associated to Roberts.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced June 16 that 45-year-old Miikael Tattoo King, formerly known as Michael Branden Anderson, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of obstruction of justice in relation to the homicide.
Investigators believe this was a targeted incident involving parties who were known to each other.
“This was a lengthy and highly complex investigation that demanded years of dedicated work by investigators who were committed to finding the answers,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT.
“Through meticulous examination of evidence and persistent pursuit of all available leads, the investigation has now reached a significant milestone, with the laying of a first-degree murder charge,” she added.
”We hope this development provides some measure of comfort to the victim’s loved ones as the judicial process moves forward.”
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) worked with policing partners in Ridge Meadows, Langley, Surrey, and Delta to advance the case.
Fong described IHIT investigators as relentless in piecing together the circumstances surrounding the murder, following the evidence trail, identifying key information about Roberts’ cause of death and the scene where the murder allegedly took place.
The charges against King have not been tested in court, and an accused person is considered innocent until proven guilty.
