Shots fired at a Murrayville home are linked to extortion-related events in the region, according to Langley RCMP.
Shots were fired in the early morning hours of June 12, in the 21500 block of 45A Avenue.
Since the initial release, investigators have continued to advance the investigation and gather evidence. It has now been confirmed that this incident is linked to on-going extortion-related activity in the region.
“Through continued investigative efforts, we have determined that this was a targeted, extortion-related shooting,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, of the Langley RCMP. “Incidents like this are concerning, and we want to reassure the public that our investigators are actively working to identify those responsible and mitigate further risk to the community.”
Investigators continue to canvas for witnesses, review surveillance footage, and analyze evidence. While this incident has now been linked to extortion activity, the investigation remains ongoing.
“Langley is working on the extortion file,” he said. “We continue to liaise with our partners regarding extortion-related investigations.
Langley RCMP continue to ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has dash camera or CCTV footage from the surrounding neighbourhood between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on June 12, to come forward. The police would also like to hear from people if others are trying to extort them.
“If you are a victim of extortion, please contact your local police,” Sharoom emphasized.
