Get locked up to help animals in need in Maple Ridge

BC SPCA Maple Ridge branch is hoping to fill their kennels – with people – for the annual Lock-In For Love campaign.

The annual fundraiser is just getting started where animal lovers are locked behind the gates of a kennel with a furry friend to raise money for the animal rescue agency.

It starts June 11 and runs until June 27.

So far the Maple Ridge branch of the SPCA has a goal of $1,000.

Branch manager Dave Desautels’ personal goal is to raise $500.

All money raised is pooled for the well-being of animals across the province.

Including the Maple Ridge branch, which Desautels noted, will always go above and beyond to help the animals that come into its care.

“Whether you donate to us or you donate to Vancouver or otherwise, that doesn’t hold us back,” he said.

During the campaign, fundraisers will have the option of being locked up at the Maple Ridge branch.

A date and time just has to be arranged with staff.

During this time the person fundraising would be streaming online appealing for donations.

Participants can be locked up for as little as 15 minutes, anywhere up to an hour.

Funds are greatly needed. The average intake exam for an animal costs $27, and then there are the costs of operations, medicines, and day-to-day care.

Currently the Maple Ridge branch is in need of donations of unscented kitty litter and Lean Cuts canned food for dogs.
