James Reimer made 16 saves for his 32nd career shutout, leading the visiting Ottawa Senators to a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Monday at Rogers Arena.
Ridly Greig and Brady Tkachuk scored for the Sens (32-22-9), who are chasing the final playoff spot in the league’s Eastern Conference. Kevin Lankinen stopped 22 of 23 shots and took the loss in goal for the Canucks (19-37-8) who remain last overall in league standings.
The teams battled through a scoreless first period, with Ottawa outshooting Vancouver 8-4.
Greig finally opened the scoring at 10:11 of the second period, when the puck came to him after caroming off the glove teammate Shane Pinto, who was trying to avoid getting hit in the face. Greig slotted the puck behind Lankinen to make it 1-0.
Vancouver unsuccessfully challenged the play for a hand pass and were given a bench minor penalty.
Shots on goal after 40 minutes favoured the Sens, 17-13.

Vancouver continues an eight-game homestand on Thursday when they host the Nashville Predators (7 p.m.).
NOTES: Vancouver was 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Canucks were 0-for-4.
