Team Canada is moving on at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
Macklin Celebrini scored twice and captain Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Mark Stone each had a goal and two assists, lifting the Canadians to a 10-2 win in preliminary round men’s hockey action Sunday against France.
Tom Wilson, Devon Toews, Cale Makar, Bo Horvat and Brandon Hagel also scored for the winners, with Jordan Binnington making 11 saves for the netminding win.
Florian Douay and Sacha Treille scored for France, with Justin Addamo adding two helpers. Julian Junca absorbed the loss in goal, stopping 27 of 33 shots. He was replaced after 4o minutes by Antoine Keller, who made 12 saves.
Wilson — starting on a line with McDavid and Celebrini — opened the scoring at 8:41 of the first period. He won a board battle behind the net, got the puck back to Drew Doughty at the point, then knocked home a rebound off Doughty’s long shot for his first goal of the tourney.
France came right back, scoring just 13 seconds later to tie things at 1-1. After a turnover by Canada, Binnington gave up a huge rebound off an Addamo shot, which was slotted home by Douay.
Only 39 seconds after that, Toews put Canada up 2-1, coming in late as a trailer and taking a drop pass from Crosby to beat Junca.
Stone gave Canada a 3-1 lead with a shorthanded marker with four seconds left in the period, intercepting a pass in the neutral zone, then breaking free to backhand a shot past Junca for his second goal of the Games.
Shots after one period favoured Canada 17-6.
Makar’s first-ever Olympic goal at 12:10 of the middle frame upped Canada’s lead to 4-1. On the power play, he took a pass at the point from McDavid and moved in to the top of the left offensive faceoff circle and fired a shot past Junca.
With 2:44 left in the period, Celebrini was hauled down as he broke in on goal and he was awarded a penalty shot.
He moved in and deftly went backhand-forehand to beat Junca above his right pad to make it 5-1 for Canada. The 19-year-old from North Vancouver finished the game with four goals for the tourney.

Nineteen seconds later, Crosby boosted the Canadian margin to five when his pass attempt went off a defender and in behind Junca. With his second goal of the tournament, Crosby passed Jarome Iginla as Canada’s all-time scoring leader at the Olympics with 15 points.
Canada outshot France 16-1 in the period, holding a 33-7 advantage after 40 minutes.
McDavid made it 7-1 just 20 seconds into the final period, taking a short feed from Celebrini and deftly deking out Keller to slip home a backhand for his second goal and ninth point of the tourney.
France clawed one back at 1:28, when Treille ripped a slapshot from the left wing past Binnington. The 38-year-old Treille is a first-time Olympian and scored his first of the Games.
Horvat scored from a sharp angle off a Sam Reinhart rebound to make it 8-2 at 5:14.
MacKinnon set up Hagel, who beat Keller from the right circle at 10:46 to give Canada a 9-2 lead. MacKinnon took a forearm to the head from France’s Pierre Crinon a few seconds later, prompting Wilson to have a discussion with several France players before play resumed. The two fought several minutes later with no significant punches landed.
On the ensuing power play, Celebrini tallied again, ripping a shot from the slot past Keller to up the margin to 10-2.
Canada’s next opponent won’t be determined until after the result of a game later Sunday between the U.S. and Germany. Canada topped Group A with a 3-0-0 record. To claim the top overall seed in the preliminary round, they must maintain their lead on goal differential over the Americans. Canada has a plus-17 goal differential compared to the Americans’ plus-7 heading into the match with Germany.
NOTES: Canada’s last Olympic meeting with France was Feb. 15, 1994, with the Canadians earning a 3-1 win… France had only one NHLer — Montreal Canadiens forward Alexandre Texier — in their lineup Sunday… Wilson’s bout was the first for Canada since 1998… McDavid has tallied three points in each of the first three games.
