Abbotsford charity partners with PetSmart to feed hungry Fraser Valley cats

Taking care of hundreds of cats is no easy feat, which is why Abby Cat Daddy is calling upon the public to help prevent Fraser Valley felines from going hungry.

By partnering with PetSmart, the Abbotsford cat charity is able to collect cat food donations from all across the Fraser Valley and get them to cats in need.

Donation bins are now available at four Lower Mainland PetSmart locations:

• Abbotsford Sumas (1305 Sumas Way)

• Abbotsford Highstreet (3122 Mount Lehman Rd.)

• Chilliwack (8249 Eagle Landing Pkwy.)

• Surrey Boardwalk (15285 101 Ave.)

Until the end of January, people will be able to contribute dry or wet cat food of any brand at one of these donation locations during store hours.

There is no lack of animals to help, with more than 200 cats going through the charity’s Trap Neuter Return program last year, and a further 100 utilizing the feline food bank, said Abby Cat Daddy founder Logan Bryan.

“Food insecurity impacts animals just as much as people,” said Bryan. “This drive allows community members to make a simple but powerful difference by picking up an extra can or bag of food while they shop.”

As many cats as Abby Cat Daddy is constantly working to help, there are many others still in need of support, with the State of Pet Homelessness Project estimating that up to 26 per cent of the country’s cats are homeless.

To address this issue, Bryan said he hopes to see a swell in public support during this fundraising campaign, with digital contributions also able to be made at theabbycatdaddy.ca.
