VIDEO: Man pepper sprayed during phone sale meeting

Police are releasing video of alleged suspects after a man selling a smart phone was pepper sprayed during an attempted robbery in Pitt Meadows in October.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying suspects.

Police are also reminding the public about online selling safety, in the wake of the incident, and amid the holiday shopping season.

On Oct. 10, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Mounties responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the 12400 block of Harris Road. Officers learned the victim was contacted online regarding a phone he had for sale. When the prospective buyer, with a companion, met up with the victim in the lobby of his building, they allegedly attempted to steal the phone from the victim. During the altercation, one of the suspects allegedly pepper-sprayed the victim, before both suspects fled the scene without the phone.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is releasing photos and surveillance video captured from the incident in the hopes of identifying the two suspects.

The first suspect is described as:

• Black male

• Approximately 5’8” tall

• Medium build

• Short black hair and a black moustache

• Wearing glasses, a dark toque, and a black pullover with white markings

Suspect two is described as:

• Black or Middle Eastern male

• Approximately 6’1” tall

• Slim build

• Short curly hair with a thin moustache

• Wearing black jacket and track pants

Anyone with further information about this incident, or the two suspects, is asked to contact Ridge Meadows RCMP and quote file 2025-21287, or should you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

“While the victim is fortunate that they were not more seriously injured in this altercation, this incident does serve as another reminder to follow proper guidelines when it comes to selling personal goods online,” said Ridge Meadows RCMP S/Sgt. Michelle Luca.

“With the holiday season now upon us, we want the public to make informed decisions on protecting not only their personal property, but their personal safety. Use designated safety zones or other well-lit public spaces during daylight hours when conducting in-person transactions.”
