A Pitt Meadows teen golf standout is in the midst of some huge tournaments.
Jaden August just finished playing in the Maple Leaf Junior National Championships in Florida, and next up is a heavily scouted showcase event for young golfers, like him, with dreams of competing in the NCAA.
August finished second at the Orange Lake Golf Resort, in Kissimmee, Fla., where 112 of Canada’s top young golfers competed in the 2025 MJT National Championships, from Nov. 7 to 9.
Competing in the Juvenile Championship, he finished behind 15-year-old Jayden Arnold of Calgary, who set a blistering pace with a round of 64 to open. Arnold finished the round with three straight birdies to post a personal best score.
So August, 17, had a lot of ground to cover after he shot 70 to open at the par 72 Legends at Orange Lake. He gained four strokes over the news two rounds, as he shot 71 and 72. Arnold had rounds of 73 and 74 to hang on to first.
“I played solid, it was a good week, and it was close,” said August. “I just came up a little bit short.”
He finished with a 213, two strokes back.
A lot of golfers would be happy with second, but for August it was his fifth time at the nationals, and he won championships twice before, as a bantam and a peewee.
He’s moving on, and the next big event is the American Junior Golf Association’s (AJGA) Amundi Evian Showcase at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort on Dec. 6-8.
This event is for the best high school seniors who have not yet committed to college, to give them exposure to coaches from that level.
August explained he has talked to recruiters from NCAA schools, and is still looking to find the right place to develop his game and go to school.
It’s got to be someplace warm, he asserts, for the sake of getting lots of time on the links.
August’s goal is to play out a college golf career, and then turn professional.
