It was 65 years ago, on April 12, 1961, when Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made history as the first person in space. His 108-minute orbital flight aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft was an important part of the international space race of the 1950s and 1960s.
Space travel has not come to an end. On April 1, a new space voyage departed Earth. It carried four astronauts, including one Canadian.
