April Fool’s prank fills high school in Hope with 300 rubber ducks

Nathaniel Robertson didn’t want to pull just a mean prank this April Fool’s Day.

The Grade 11 student at The Spirit of Hope Secondary wanted to do something funny and positive for his classmates.

And that began with asking his mom, Christyn Rumble, for 300 rubber ducks at Christmas.

With the permission from school staff, Robertson and his mom were let into the school in the evening of March 31. They hid those 300 rubber ducks in every nook and cranny imaginable.

They were stuck to some surfaces that were easy to spot — places like walls and vases.

But they were also affixed to the basketball backstop, with the help of a ladder and teacher Dave Dunster.

They also hung posters around the school announcing: “Dunk Hunt: Gotta Quack Them All, April Fools, Quackheads.”

The poster went on to say: “I have hidden 300 rubber ducks throughout the school. Your goal is to find as many as you can.”

Students were invited to either re-hide them or return them to Robertson.

As of this week, it’s uncertain if all the little ducks were found. Some may still be in their original spots, or hiding elsewhere, or taken home by students.
