Two bald eagles were rescued after getting stuck on a power line in Surrey, B.C. on Sunday (April 5).
BC Hydro said in a social media post that the two eagles were fighting mid-air when they locked their talons and free-fell onto a power line. BC Hydro stated it quickly “de-energized the line” to ensure a safe rescue of the birds.
Delta-based OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, BC Hydro and Surrey Fire Services worked together to free the birds.
Surrey Fire responded with a ladder truck and hoisted two members from OWL to the powerline to help free the birds.
OWL said in a social media post that the eagles “suffered no serious injuries and were able to fly off immediately.”
“This time of year, they are fighting to protect their nest or their young, and this was the best possible outcome for them to go back to their respective babies,” OWL said.
