Seattle Seahawks star coming to Surrey for spring football camp

FlexWork Sports is bringing Seattle Seahawks star Rashid Shaheed to Surrey for a youth football camp this spring.

Shaheed, wide receiver and kick-return specialist, won the Super Bowl with Seattle in February, three months after a trade from New Orleans Saints. In March he signed a three-year, $51-million contract extension to stay with the Seahawks.

The cost is $165.41 for the June 7 session at Newton Athletic Park, according to details on flexworksports.com. Kids aged six to 16 can sign up for the four-hour camp, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Over the course of the day, Seattle star WR Rashid Shaheed and our FlexWork Sports coaches will guide your child through an exciting, high-energy day designed around fun and unforgettable experiences on the field,” the website says.

Activities include interactive sessions, skill stations and “unique opportunities to connect with our athletes in ways that make the game come alive.”

Campers receive a team photo with Rashid Shaheed, T-shirt and take-home items from event sponsors.

FlexWork Sports, advertised as an industry leader in youth sports experiences, organizes sports camps in the U.S. and Canada featuring star athletes in football, baseball and basketball.

The Shaheed camp in Surrey is the lone one in B.C. planned by the company, according to the “upcoming camps” webpage.
