Man gets 15 years for Maple Ridge killing and Abbotsford shooting

A man charged with a Maple Ridge homicide and an Abbotsford shooting has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Alexander Delair was sentenced Wednesday (April 1) in B.C. Supreme Court in New Westminster.

With credit for time served, Delair has another 12.5 years left on his sentence.

He was initially charged in August 2024 with second-degree murder in the shooting death of Dustin Evans on May 31, 2024 at the corner of 223 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.

But that offence was downgraded to – and Delair was sentenced for – manslaughter using a firearm.

Delair’s sentence also includes three charges in Abbotsford: robbery using a firearm, possessing a restricted firearm, and discharging a firearm with intent.

The incident related to those charges took place in July 2024 in the 2000 block of Topaz Street in Abbotsford.

Officers were called for a weapons complaint and when they arrived, they discovered that a 38-year-old man had been shot.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and recovered.

Two others were also charged in relation to that incident. Charges were stayed against James Fedje in May 2025, while the trial for Jessica Van Norren is slated to begin on Sept. 14.
