An Earth Day school reunion is being planned in Maple Ridge.
Organizers of the annual Celebrate Earth Day Festival are inviting anyone who attended, taught at, or worked at a school in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows to gather at the Earth Day ReConnect Reunion taking place in Memorial Peace Park on Saturday, April 18.
The reunion is part of the theme of the Earth Day festival this year – reConnect.
People are being asked to reach out and connect with people, places, and loved activities.
“Maybe it’s two seconds to look away from the screen and appreciate where you are and who you’re with. Maybe it’s two minutes to phone or email an old friend or loved one or listen to a favourite song. Maybe it’s two hours to walk, hike, bike, or drive around a place that’s filled with memories. Maybe it’s two weeks of rediscovering an activity or taking a class and rekindling feelings that make your heart sing,” said festival organizers online.
“Whatever it is, don’t wait. ReConnect and reawaken. The world needs you.”
Earth Day festivities will be kicking off at 10 a.m. in the downtown park.
A special Haney Farmers Market will be taking place, in addition to a food truck festival, a family freecycle, an electric vehicle display, a Repair Cafe, a Cycle Recycle free bike draw, a children’s play zone, the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour will be on site, and more.
Then at noon, those who would like to attend the reunion are being asked to look for a sign along Ring Road that lists different school eras. Attendees can register, and will receive a name tag on which they can put their school name and the years they attended it.
Those who were a part of SD42: up until 1975 are asked to meet in front of the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre; from 1976 to 2000 are asked to meet in front of The ACT Arts Centre; and from 2001 to 2026 are asked to meet in front of the entrance to the Maple Ridge Business Centre on the north side of the park.
Earth Day festivities will run until 2 p.m.
