Maple Ridge will be celebrating an important Sikh holiday next weekend.
The Vaisakhi Samagam is a gathering to celebrate the Punjabi new year, the harvest, and the anniversary of the birth of the Khalsa in 1699. It will be held on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Memorial Peace Park (11930 224th Street).
There will be a vibrant parade, or nagar kirtan, musicians and singers, and free food (langar) and drinks for all. Everyone is welcome. The event is being organized by the Ridge Meadows South Asian Cultural Association.
Vaisakhi is one of the most significant festivals in Sikhism, with historic, cultural and spiritual significance for Sikhs worldwide.
