Small town B.C. camel stars in Animal Control sitcom

Lavington’s beloved camel, Mayhem, is officially a star!

The large, furry, white camel is featured on Animal Control, the Fox television sitcom.

Mayhem stars Thursday, April 2 in season 4, episode 9, Camels and Bats, at 6 p.m. Pacific time and streaming April 3 on Hulu.

Alex Schlosser, owner of KalCam Farms, was contacted last year about the possibility of Mayhem going to Vancouver for a show.

“We sent off some pictures and explained his current training and he fit the script,” said Schlosser. “We all went down to Vancouver for about five days and stayed in Langley. We had a couple days of practice and on the day of filming went right downtown Vancouver for a night shoot. Mayhem did great. We were all very proud of our boy.”

The episode even features comedian Joel McHale riding Mayhem.

“Joel McHale was a lot of fun to work with. He was really good hearted about the whole thing and I hope he enjoyed the shoot as much as we did,” said Schlosser.

It was a big ordeal for the small town camel in the big city.

In fact, Schlosser spent about 12 hours cleaning and drying Mayhem prior to the big trip.

“No one was expecting such a clean fluffy camel. I think he surpassed all expectations especially for his first movie gig. The production company loved him.”

Mayhem appeared to enjoy his stardom as well.

“He soaked it all in,” said Schlosser of the camel that is used to crowds following his annual Mayhem Mothers Day fundraisers. “All his training was a great way to prepare him for the crowds and big city. There were a lot of firsts for him and he just nailed it.”

McHale also enjoyed his experience meeting and riding Mayhem.

“He was the nicest Canadian camel I’ve ever met,” McHale said in an interview on Late Night with Seth Myers.
