Ridge Meadows Flames on the verge of third straight championship

The Ridge Meadows Flames are one win away from a threepeat.

The Maple Ridge Junior A squad beat the Langley Trappers in a third straight game in their best-of-seven championship series in the Pacific Junior Hockey League on Tuesday night, by a score of 6-1.

They could end the series in a sweep with another win in Langley on Thursday.

The game was close most of the way. The Flames took a 2-0 lead into the third period, but the Trappers cut the lead to one with an early goal in the final frame. Then the Flames blew the game open with four straight in the third period.

Elite offensive players Zack Lagrange and Matthew Biros each had a goal and two assists in the game, but the offence came from throughout the lineup, with six different players getting a goal.

The power play was lethal, scoring three goals on five attempts, and is clipping along at an 42 per cent success rate – 25 goals on 59 chances through their 13 playoff games.

Captain Lagrange is leading the league playoff scoring race with 31 points in 13 games, and Biros is second with 27 points.

Goaltender Matthew Candusso has 10 wins in 12 games, and leads all PJHL goaltenders in playoff save percentage at 0.943.

The potential clinching game will be played April 2 at George Preston Arena, at 7 p.m.

Game 5, if necessary, would be back at Cam Neely Arena in Maple Ridge on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.
