B.C. youth charged after alleged school shooting threats

One youth has been charged after allegedly exchanging threatening messages online with a U.S. teen about a school shooting.

According to the Sooke RCMP, the threats were first flagged on July 19, 2025 by the Homeland Security Unit of Kentucky’s Louisville Metro Police Department. Investigators determined the American youth was in regular contact with a Canadian teen living in Sooke, who attends Edward Milne Community School.

The Vancouver Island RCMP began its criminal investigation on March 13, leading the BC Prosecution Service to approve a charge of conveying threats and issue a warrant for the youth’s arrest.

Police arrested the youth on March 28 without incident and seized electronic devices from their home. The youth remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

The court has imposed publication bans under the Criminal Code and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

“The RCMP is committed to work with international partners with the common goal of safeguarding public safety and to keep those individuals who prey upon instilling fear within their communities accountable” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé.

The investigation is ongoing.
