RCMP seize suspected drugs, cash and guns during search in Merritt

Merritt RCMP arrested multiple people and seized suspected drugs, cash, and firearms during the execution of a search warrant on Friday, March 27.

On Friday, Merritt police executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2600 block of Nicola Avenue as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

Police say to ensure public and officer safety, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT) helped Merritt officers in carrying out the search warrant.

Multiple individuals were located inside the unit and arrested at the scene, police said.

Officers also seized a quantity of suspected drugs, cash, firearms, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Staff Sgt. Josh Roda of the Merritt RCMP said all the officers involved “demonstrated strong teamwork and professionalism during this investigation.”

“Removing illicit drugs and weapons from our community remains a priority for this detachment, as these items pose a significant risk to public safety,” Roda said.

All the individuals were later released without charge pending further investigation, which remains ongoing.

“Anyone with information related to criminal activity in the Merritt area is encouraged to contact Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.”
