At Stanley Park, Canada’s largest aquarium houses close to 65,000 creatures, including rescued marine mammals, in more than 120 exhibits, both indoor and outdoor.

The newest residents are Holly and Maui, two 18-year-old California sea lions re-homed from Marineland in Ontario into the BC Wild Coast habitat.

On April 11, adults can enjoy a Spring Fling dinner and night at the aquarium. General-admission tickets are $150 (members $120) for a three-course meal, inspired by sustainable West Coast flavours, surrounded by marine life. For the menu and more, visit vanaqua.org.

A new Amazing Axolotls exhibit explores tiny amphibians with frilly gills and permanent smiles, while Dragons features creatures that have inspired dragon myths around the world including the green tree python, gila monster, caiman and more.

The aquarium’s 4D Theatre brings viewers on a journey across North America, from lynx in the snowy Yukon to manatees in Florida, in BBC Earth.
