A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car in a crosswalk in Delta.
Delta Police Department officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at 7:10 a.m Tuesday morning (March 24), a police press release notes.
Police say a man was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Sunwood Drive and 64 Avenue when he was hit by a vehicle.
At the scene, BCEHS and Delta firefighters attempted lifesaving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead on scene.
DPD reports that the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and the driver is cooperating with investigators.
Police will remain on scene for the next several hours while they investigate the circumstances around this collision.
Commuters and residents are being advised that road closures are in effect both eastbound and westbound on 64 Avenue between Wade Road and 120 Street, as well as northbound and southbound on Sunwood Drive.
Traffic is being diverted away from the intersection.
