Bringing the heat: 7 temperature records broken in B.C.

The wave of warm weather broke records in multiple cities across the Okanagan and Cariboo regions.

In total, seven B.C. cities, all in the Okanagan and Cariboo, broke temperature records on Wednesday, Mar. 18, according to Environment Canada.

Topping every city was Osoyoos as 22.7 C was recorded, breaking a two-year record for Mar. 18, after reaching 22 C in 2024.

Next was Kamloops, which broke a 116 year record. On Wednesday, the city known as the tournament capital of Canada reached 21.8 C, beating the old record of 21.1 set in 1910.

Salmon Arm was right behind Kamloops, topping at 21.7 C. This broke a 111-year-old record of 16.7, set in 1915.

Summerland broke a 96-year-old record after reaching 20.8 C on Wednesday. Back in 1930, the municipality reached 20 C.

To the Cariboo, where the heat in Quesnel broke a 125-year-old record. Temperatures reached 18.6 C, breaking the 1901 record of 17.2 C.

Much like Osoyoos, Williams Lake broke a two-year-old record on Wednesday, reaching 17 C. On Mar. 18 2024, the temperature was 15.9 C.

And finally, Prince George was 14.8 C, also breaking a two-year-old record of 13.9 C in 2024.
