Coding for kids event at Maple Ridge Library on Saturday

Kids can learn to code at an event on March 14 at the Maple Ridge Public Library.

The Scratch 3.0 Club uses a 75-card deck to teach children aged eight to 12 simple coding skills. It is running today from 2 to 3 p.m.

They will create interactive stories, games and animations such as Pong and Virtual Pets.

Parents are welcome to join, and children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Computer coding teaches kids how to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically, and is quickly becoming a necessary and sought-after skill, notes the Fraser Valley Regional Library in promoting Scratch 3.0.

Coding also teaches kids valuable skills for life after school, including important strategies for solving problems. They will be designing projects, and communicating ideas, all while creating games to play with their friends.
