Vancouver Goldeneye’s forward Hannah Miller tied the game late in the third period, sending it to overtime, but less than a minute into extra time, Boston Fleet’s Shay Maloney scored, defeating Vancouver 2-1.
The Goldeneyes hosted the Fleet at the Pacific Coliseum Tuesday night (March 10) in front of a crowd of 9,731.
Vancouver’s goaltender Kristen Campbell saved 25 of 27 shots on net.
Hannah Miller said of Campbell, “She’s awesome, she always brings energy. She’s a great personality in the room for us, and we love playing in front of her. We have all the confidence in the world in all our goalies. I thought she was incredible tonight all the way through. It’s one of the best feelings as a team, having that trust and belief in your goaltenders. We’re lucky to have them here.”
Vancouver is the only team in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) that has “two qualified goalies (min. 240 minutes).
Boston’s win on Tuesday is the longest winning streak in team history and is currently tied with Montreal for the longest this season at six games.
Boston Head Coach Kris Sparre said, “Gutsy win by us tonight. We’re on a tough stretch here with five away games in a row after a break, but we’re finding ways to collect points. I thought we played a pretty good game overall. Vancouver is a fast team, they have a lot of skill. Credit to them, they played a hard game tonight, threw a lot of great pucks towards our net, and Aerin [Frankel] did a great job keeping them out.”
The Fleet’s goalie, Aerin Frankel, saved 25 of 26 shots on net.
Tuesday night was First Nations Celebration night, which honoured Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations on whose traditional and unceded territories the city of Vancouver is located.
In honour of our First Nation's Celebration Game, we commissioned Debra Sparrow, an acclaimed Musqueam weaver and cultural leader, to create an art piece.
