A 24-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Navdeep Kaur, who was originally reported missing in February 2024.
The two were in a relationship at the time of her death, police said.
Kaur was reported missing by her family on Feb. 23, 2024. She was last seen the day before at around 10:30 a.m. in the 7800-block of 123 Street. Police quickly determined that she had been a homicide victim.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the investigation in March of 2024 in close partnership with Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service.
Kaur’s body was found by police in Richmond in the Fraser River on July 23, 2024.
“Over several months, a team of dedicated homicide investigators examined the evidence from the crime scenes and pieced together a timeline of events,” noted an IHIT news release Wednesday (March 11).
The BC Prosecution Service charged Amarbir Singh with second-degree murder on March 6, 2026, and a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
“We are aware that Mr. Singh may have fled the country, but that will not stop us from pursuing him,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “We will continue to actively track him down, and we are fully prepared to work with our law enforcement counterparts overseas to bring him before the Court.”
Anyone with information on Singh’s whereabouts is urged to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
