Abbotsford police responded to a shooting on Monday night (March 9) and the Emergency Response Team was deployed after several people allegedly barricaded themselves inside a home believed to be connected to the incident.
Nine people were removed from the residence and detained by police but no arrests have been made, according to a media release from the Abbotsford Police Department.
The shooting was reported on the 33500 block of Cannon Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. and is not connected to exortion violence in the Lower Mainland, per the release.
“Officers quickly identified a residence known to police that is believed to be connected to the incident,” police said.
Police said ERT was deployed after “several individuals became uncooperative” and barricaded themselves inside while efforts were made to evacuate the home. According to APD, it had information that firearms were present inside the home as well.
“During the ERT operation, distraction devices were used, which caused loud bangs heard throughout the area. The incident was safely resolved shortly after midnight, and no injured persons were located,” police said.
Police expect to serve a search warrant for the residence later on Tuesday (March 10), which is currently being held by police.
The department added that the investigation remains in its early stages.
