A man who was sentenced in 2017 in Manitoba to a seven-year jail term for recording and photographing himself sexually abusing a two-year-old girl has now been charged in Abbotsford.

Cory Allan Bloomer, 44 – who was declared a dangerous offender during his sentencing – was recently charged in Abbotsford with possessing child sex-abuse material, according to court records.

The date of the offence is listed as Jan. 9 of this year, with Bloomer’s next court appearance scheduled for March 16 in Abbotsford provincial court.

An August 2017 news article from The Brandon Sun about Bloomer’s sentencing indicated that he has a “long and disturbing history of sexual-related offences.”

He had prior convictions for child porn possession in November 2014 when the Brandon Police Service was notified by investigators in Toronto that someone had uploaded images to a website commonly used by people with a sexual interest in children, the newspaper reported.

The IP address was traced to Bloomer, and police raided his Brandon apartment in January 2015. They seized an external hard drive that contained almost 52,000 photos and videos that depicted child sexual abuse, the article states.

The images and videos showed boys and girls aged six to 14.

The Brandon Sun stated that among the material were images and videos of Bloomer sexually assaulting a local two-year-old girl at least 17 times.

Bloomer’s sentence was to be followed by a 10-year long-term supervision order, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper also reported that while Bloomer was in prison after his arrest, he was again charged with having child sex-abuse material.

It was alleged that he had ripped photos of girls from a newspaper, written sexually explicit messages on them and taped them to the wall of his jail cell, according to the news article.

Court records indicate that Bloomer was also convicted of breaching his long-term supervision order in Vancouver in April 2025 and was sentenced to an additional 10 months in jail.

Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department, said Bloomer has been in prison in Abbotsford, and his latest charge stems from evidence allegedly located in his cell and reported to police.

Walker said the matter is continuing to be investigated by the APD’s sex crimes unit and he could not release further details.
