5 Okanagan residents, groups recognized with ALS Society of B.C. 2025 awards

The ALS Society of British Columbia handed out awards to 13 groups, individuals, and organizations for their contributions in 2025, and nearly half of the winners reside in the Okanagan.

“We are immensely grateful for our volunteers’ unwavering support, commitment, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and PLS (Primary Lateral Sclerosis). This list reflects leaders amongst countless others who have given back in benefit of our community. Their contributions are the backbone of our mission and we look forward to celebrating their achievements next month,” said executive director Donald Miyazaki.

Okanagan winners include Kelowna’s Darryl Borsato with the Dr. Andrew Eisen Leadership Award, the Westrich Pacific Charity Gold Tournament in Kelowna with the corporate partner Exceptional Fundraising Award, Shawn Penno of Armstrong with the Exceptional Advocacy Award, Vernon’s Tri’ing to End ALS (Donna Bartel and Mike Pearson) with the group award for Exceptional Public Awareness, and Penticton’s Annie Harries taking home the award for Exceptional Public Awarenss by an individual.

The award winners will be celebrated on Apr. 10 at the Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond. Request forms to attend the celebration can be found online.

The ALS Society of BC aims to provide hope in the fight against ALS and PLS by providing essential programs, awareness, and advocacy for patients. The society also aims to end ALS with its Project Hope campaign.
