Maple Ridge’s Gryphons suffer loss at provincial basketball championships

The Meadowridge Gryphons had their dreams of a senior boys basketball provincial championship dashed on Thursday night, March 5.

The Gryphons lost to the Vernon Christian Royals, the third-ranked team in Single A, by a score of 75-61, at the Langley Events Centre.

The Gryphons were led by top scorer Myles Galazka with 15 points, centre Ryan Hemati-Boroujeni with 13, and Ethan Banack with 11.

Meadowridge had won their first game over Campbell River Christian 81-67 on Wednesday.

Next up, the Gryphons will face the Daaxiigan Sk’adaa Nee Thunderbirds of Masset on Friday night, at 7 p.m., at the Langley Events Centre.

A win there would put them in the game for fifth/six place in the 16-team tournament, on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
