Poulin ties Olympic scoring record as Canada dominates Germany 5-1

Marie-Philip Poulin is now tied with Hayley Wickenheiser for “greatest goal scorer in Olympic women’s hockey history,” Hockey Canada said.

Canada defeated Germany 5-1 in the quarter finals at the Milano Rho Arena.

Canada’s Brianne Jenner opened up the scoring just under two minutes into the first period. Claire Thomson, Sarah Fillier, Blayre Turnbull and Poulin also scored during the game and goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer saved 10 of 11 shots on net.

Germany’s Franziska Feldmeier scored on a breakaway while her team was short-handed. This is the first time the team has ever scored against Canada in international competition, according to the PWHL. Goaltender Sandra Abstreiter saved 38 of 43 shots on net.

This was Poulin’s first game back after suffering a lower-body injury during the preliminary game with Czechia when she was checked by Kristyna Kaltounkova midway through the first period.

Canada advanced to the semifinals and will face off against the winner of the Finland-Switzerland quarterfinal on Monday.
