In Loving Memory ~
Passed away peacefully on January 19th, 2026.
Born in 1941 and raised in southern Alberta, Dorethy graduated from nursing school in 1962. She moved to Maple Ridge, BC, shortly thereafter, to work at the town’s newly built hospital. She married Doug five years later.
She took great pride in being a registered nurse. She had a gift for helping people feel more comfortable and valued excellent patient care. Dorethy called things as she saw them – often using questionable language in order to get her point across. She made many lifelong friends during her 40- year career in health care and built special connections with many in the community. The United Church was especially close to her heart. Later in her working life, Dorethy spent 10 years as a marriage commissioner, which was a natural fit with her passion for helping others. Dorethy loved music and being an organist, as well as sewing and other creative pastimes.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Doug, and brother Bill. Deeply missed by her sons, Sean and Ross, sisters Ruth and Ellie (Mike), brother John (Margriet), sister-in-law, Pearl, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She also leaves behind her newly-adopted and much-adored miniature poodle, Zoey.
A celebration of life will be held at Golden Ears United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Road, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, BC, on Saturday, June 27th at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Katie’s Place Animal Shelter.
