The Whitehorse RCMP responded to Porter Creek Secondary School on Feb. 11, 2026, after receiving a report of a concerning social media post involving a student.
Police say the report came in at approximately 12:52 p.m., prompting officers to “immediately” begin an uttering‑threats investigation and attend the school for the safety of students and staff.
According to the RCMP, the investigation determined there was no direct threat to public safety. Officers remained at the school for about an hour out of what the release describes as an abundance of caution.
When asked if there was a gun found at the school, RCMP confirmed there were no firearms present Porter Creek Secondary, following the investigation.
Whitehorse RCMP will continue to work closely with school officials and partner agencies to support students, staff, and families. The detachment noted this comes at a time when communities across Canada are experiencing heightened concern following the school shooting, that left nine dead, in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., on Feb. 10.
The Whitehorse RCMP is asking families and community members to remind children and youth about the importance of telling a trusted adult when they encounter troubling information online or elsewhere, the release says. The detachment says sharing information helps officers and schools address situations promptly, and can assist in ensuring supports are in place.
