Family Day celebrations to take place in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows

Family Day is coming up with plenty to do in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

The Maple Ridge Lions Club is holding a free Winter Family Fun Day and Market including lots of activities both indoors and out.

To celebrate the season, an umbrella parade will be taking place where children 12 and younger are invited to bring their own decorated umbrella, small or regular sized umbrella, to show off for prizes.

There will also be a market with more than 35 vendors.

Games and crafts will be taking place.

Local firefighters will be on hand with a fire truck on display. Members of St. John Ambulance will also be on site, in addition to members of the Ridge Meadows RCMP with a police car.

Interactive displays and music will also be a part of the celebration.

The event will also raise money for local charities.

The Winter Family Fun Day and Market will be taking place from 10-3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at 23448 Jim Robson Way, Maple Ridge.

The City of Pitt Meadows is hosting a Family Day Carnival.

A variety of free activities, including crafts and carnival games, will be taking place in the gymnasium at the Pitt Meadows Recreation Centre from 9-11:30 a.m. at 12027 Harris Road.

The Constable Rick O’Brien Youth Lounge will also be open for families to play billiards, foosball, and video and arcade games.

A free, drop-in Family Day skate will be taking place from noon to 2 p.m. at Pitt Meadows Arena, 11435 Bonson Rd., Pitt Meadows.

Regular rental rates will apply.

Family Day was established in British Columbia in 2013. It was initially celebrated on the second Monday of February.

In 2019 it was decided by the provincial government that date would be changed to the third Monday of February to better align with other Canadian provinces and the United States.

This year Family Day falls on Monday, Feb. 16.
