VIDEO: Explosions heard at Maple Ridge fire

Water had to be trucked in by Maple Ridge firefighters to battle a blaze along 100th Avenue Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the fire on a property in the 26000 block just after 1 p.m. on Feb. 2, where flames could be seen inside a large shed-like structure.

Maple Ridge fire chief Dave Samson said the structure that caught fire was a detached metal-working shop and water had to be shuttled in as the area is without fire hydrants.

About 18 Maple Ridge firefighters were on site, including duty chiefs, plus the department received help from Mission Fire Rescue Service.

One witness said they heard explosions coming from the direction of the property.

Another person said nobody was injured, but that they lost their tools in the fire.

Ridge Meadows RCMP had the road blocked off from 256 Street to about 264 Street.

BC Hydro was also on scene.

The fire is now under control, said Samson at around 3 p.m., noting firefighters would continue to be on scene for the fire control phase.

An investigation into what caused the fire has not yet been started, he added.
