Heavy rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver starting tonight

Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver, including Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

The yellow warning forecasts 80 to 120 mm of rain tonight (Wednesday) through Friday.

A series of frontal systems will move across the South Coast over the next few days, said Environment Canada. Rain will become heavy this evening, with 40 to 60 mm expected by Thursday morning. Rain will ease Thursday morning, then intensify that evening with an additional 40 to 60 mm expected by Friday afternoon, when the rain will taper to a few showers.

An alert from the City of Maple Ridge says significant flooding is not anticipated. However, high streamflow, localized flooding, rising river levels, washouts and hazardous driving conditions are possible.

City crews are inspecting and preparing city infrastructure, monitoring conditions closely and are ready to respond as needed.

Residents are asked to clear leaves and debris from gutters and catch basins near your home to prevent localized flooding.

Drivers are advised to be careful in hazardous road and travel conditions, give yourself more time to travel, and do not walk, cycle, or drive through flooded areas.
