Ridge Meadows Flames goalie sets mark for consistency

Ridge Meadows Flames goaltender Matthew Candusso made a little Pacific Junior Hockey League history on Sunday night, as he became the league’s first goalie to record three straight season with 20-plus wins.

Candusso allowed one goal on 40 shots to lead the Junior A squad to a 4-1 win over the Port Coquitlam Trailblazers.

It was the second win of the weekend for the Flames, who also beat the Chilliwack Jets 5-2 on Friday night.

Matthew Biros had an impressive weekend, with his 29th goal of the season and four assists in the two games. With 61 points, he is seventh in league scoring, and climbing. Since joining the Flames after a trade from PoCo he has 15 points in eight games.

Defenceman Morgan Clark had three assists for the Flames, and the hometown boy now has a career best goal and 30 points after 40 games.

The Flames and Jets were tied 2-2 after two periods on Friday, but the Flames put it away with a three-goal third.

Abbotsford rookie Manny Sandhu was the star of the game with the winner on the power play. He and Jonah Power Smith each had a goal and an assist.

Pitt Meadows netminder Nicholas Muc got his fourth win in as many games as a Flame, as the former PoCo goalie stopped 43 of 45 shots. The trade has been good for his stat line, and with the Flames he has a 0.945 save percentage so far.

Next up, the Flames take on the Delta Ice Hawks on Friday, Jan. 30, at Cam Neely Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
