Heavy rains bring washouts to Golden Ears Park

The last atmospheric river to hit the Lower Mainland caused flooding and significant damage to roads in Golden Ears Provincial Park, and some routes are closed.

Campers were evacuated on Jan. 12, and the entire northern region of the park, north of the access road to the Alouette Lake boat launch, was closed.

That major route has now opened, but a parks update on Jan. 27 said access to the campgrounds via Golden Ears Campground Road is closed due to structural damage from severe weather events.

Campgrounds must be accessed via the gravel bypass road.

Access to the park is closed from the junction of Campground Road and Golden Ears Parkway to the area south of the junction of the Campground Road and Alouette Campground Road.

There are also trail closures. These closures and advisories are noted and updated on the BC Parks website.

Heavy rains have caused significant damage at the park in recent years, and the October 2024 atmospheric river damaged roads and trails, closing the park. It was closed all winter, finally reopening on March 17, 2025.
