Students who love hockey can go to school on the sport.
The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District is hosting a pair of upcoming zoom sessions about its hockey academies. Parents can learn about the programs and ask questions.
A session for the Pitt Meadows secondary academy will be held on Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m., and program registration will happen the next day, starting at 8:30 a.m.
The zoom session for the Samuel Robertson Technical academy happens on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., and again registration will open the next day.
These academies are offered in partnership with the RPM hockey academy, and allow students to get academic credit while pursuing their sport. They also run academies in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Squamish and communities in northern B.C. – 10 in total.
These are co-ed, inclusive, and available to all skill levels, for students in Grades 8-12. Students typically get two house on ice each week, with skill-based instruction, and an hour of off-ice conditioning, as well as theory instruction. Topics include goal setting, nutrition, rest and recovery and more.

The cost for the academies is $2,110.
