The Vancouver Goldeneyes and Ottawa Charge have completed the biggest trade in PWHL history.
The two teams announced Sunday (Jan. 18) that each would acquire three players.
“The Goldeneyes acquired forwards Mannon McMahon, Anna Meixner and Anna Shokhina in exchange for forwards Michela Cava and Brooke McQuigge and defender Emma Greco,” noted a Goldeneyes release Tuesday (Jan. 30).
All three forwards acquired by the Goldeneyes have spent their entire PWHL career in Ottawa. McMahon, 24, has 10 points (5 G, 5 A) in 43 regular-season games. She was the fifth-round pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft. Meixner has two goals in 13 games this season and four points (3G, 1A) in 41 games. She was the sixth-round pick in the 2024 draft. Shokhina has one goal and three assists in her first 12 PWHL games. She was the second-round pick in the 2025 draft. All three players are signed through the 2025-26 season.
“Mannon McMahon can play all 200 feet, adding energy on the forecheck but also possessing great playmaking ability. Anna Meixner plays with grit and has a hard nose for the net. Anna Shokhina has really high-end skill and is an offensive shooting threat who can score goals,” said Goldeneyes General Manager Cara Gardner Morey. “These players will make an impact at both ends of the ice. We want to compete with grit and speed, and these players embody those qualities and fit the way we want to play. We believe this move will strengthen our group both on and off the ice as we continue our inaugural season. We’re excited to welcome these three to Vancouver.”
Vancouver is currently in last place in the league, leading many fans to comment that a change is necessary. However, many were shocked by the trade on Sunday.
Stating that the Charge got the best players in the trade, especially with the loss of Michaela Cava.
Charge General Manager Mike Hirshfeld said, “Michela Cava is a proven winner as part of the Minnesota Frost for the last two seasons. She will bring goal scoring ability to our organization. We got to know her game extremely well from the PWHL Walter Cup Finals last season and we’re looking forward to adding her grit and compete to our group.”
The Goldeneyes will return home for their next game at the Pacific Coliseum on Thursday (Jan. 22) as they take on the Toronto Sceptres again.
The PWHL entered its third season on Nov. 21 with its original six teams: Toronto Sceptres, Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Minnesota Frost, Boston Fleet, and New York Sirens, along with the two new teams, Vancouver Goldeneyes and Seattle Torrent.
