Ridge Meadows RCMP catch nine impaired drivers

The Ridge Meadows RCMP are coming off a “steady” weekend of work, with four individuals taken into custody, and nine impaired drivers taken off the road.

Frontline officers responded to more than 200 calls for service and were kept busy with a number of different files and other ongoing priorities.

Officers dealt with overnight thefts and break and enters to commercial businesses, suspicious persons and circumstances, and some interesting animal calls – including a bull mastiff dog running loose that had to be contained before the unaware owner awoke from his nap.

The Road Safety Target Team (RSTT) teamed up with Metro Vancouver Transit Police to conduct impaired driving checks on Saturday, which resulted in them removing six impaired drivers from behind the wheel. Targeted enforcement outside establishments also removed a further three impaired drivers.

RSTT also took enforcement action on three drivers who were driving more than 40km/h over the speed limit. The highest speed being 148 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Pedestrian safety checks were also conducted in high-traffic locations, with education stops for a number of jaywalkers.

Foot patrols and bar walk-throughs were conducted at hot-spot locations, along with a number of curfew checks and ensuring individuals were abiding by their court-ordered conditions.

Officers assisted other police agencies with outstanding files in the Ridge Meadows jurisdiction. They also assisted store loss prevention and bylaw officers with some difficult clients, and those in the community disrupting the peace.
