LETTER: School district needs big cuts at the top

Dear Editor,

With all the talk we’re hearing about the Metro Vancouver and the wages that are made there, I would like to bring this same issue closer to home.

While our school district is making cuts to buses, Grade 7 band, and i’m guessing EAs and other teachers aids, our upper managers are sitting fairly comfortable with their wages.

In 2010, we had three managers, five leadhands, and around 28 maintance workers.

Now, 16 years later, we have seven managers, a maintenace coordinator, and one foreman – three less workers.

Also, at the district office, the superintendent makes around $334,000 (total compensation in 2023-24) and under that person (during the same period) 4 assistant/deputy superintendents and a secretary-treasurere all made $230,000 to $285,000. All of this information is availble online.

I think that if they want to be leaders, they should start at the top and maybe cut the fat from the top.

I believe cutting two or three assistant superintendents and a few managers we could save almost a million dollars.
