Roslovic, Kapanen net 2 apiece as Edmonton Oilers blank Canucks 6-0

Jack Roslovic and Kasperi Kapanen had two goals apiece, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 6-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Saturday at Rogers Arena.

Zach Hyman and Vasily Podkolzin also scored for the Oilers (24-17-8), with Burnaby’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins adding two assists. Surrey-born Tristan Jarry earned the win in goal, making 31 saves for his second shutout of the season and 23rd of his career.

Nikita Tolopilo took the loss in net for Vancouver (16-26-5), stopping 29 of 35 shots. The Canucks have dropped 10 straight games.

The teams battled through a scoreless first period, with Edmonton outshooting Vancouver 9-7.

In the second, the Oilers exploded for six goals on 17 shots.

Roslovic opened the scoring at 3:11, slipping a backhander past Tolopilo as Edmonton’s Curtis Lazar crashed into the netminder. The Canucks were unsuccessful in challenging goaltender interference.

Hyman scored a power-play marker at 6:49, when his shot attempt banked off Vancouver defender Filip Hronek and in behind Tolopilo. Hyman has 17 goals on the year.

Kapanen made it 3-0 at 11:42, snapping home a shot on a breakaway for his second goal of the year.

Roslovic scored his second of the night, and 14th of the season, driving to the net and tapping in a pass from Isaac Howard.

Just 37 seconds later, Kapanen netted his second of the game, converting a nice feed from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Former Canuck Vasily Podkolzin rounded out the middle-frame outburst with his 11th of the season at 16:34, firing home a shot from the right circle after Connor McDavid tried to split the Vancouver defence.

Neither team managed to score in the third, with Vancouver outshooting the Oilers 15-9.

The Canucks return to action Monday (7 p.m.) when they host the New York Islanders.
