UPDATE: Man found dead on roadside after shooting in Surrey

One man was found dead on the side of the road in Surrey on Tuesday (Jan. 13) in what police say was a fatal shooting.

Police have been on scene on 176 Street, north of 32 Avenue, for several hours as of Tuesday evening.

Surrey Police Service was first called to the scene at about 12:05 p.m., according to a police press release, after reports of a man lying on the ground in the 3500-block of 176 Street. The area is primarily farmland, on Kensington Prairie.

Upon arrival, members located a man apparently suffering from gunshot wounds. Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS attended, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the investigation and is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service.

Shortly afterwards, a vehicle was reportedly found burning in the 18900-block of 40 Avenue, which investigators believe is connected to the shooting death.
