Investigators identified the victim of a “targeted shooting” in Abbotsford on Friday (Jan. 9) as 28-year-old Navpreet Dhaliwal.
According to a news release from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), Dhaliwal was from Abbotsford and known to police.
IHIT said the investigation indicates that the shooting was linked to “the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.”
“This was a targeted and brazen shooting that took place in the middle of the day,” IHIT Cpl. Esther Tupper said in the release.
Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department, said police were called to the 3200 block of Siskin Drive – just west of Blue Jay Street – at 12:38 p.m. He said when officers arrived, they located a man with life-threatening injuries. The man died at the scene.
Walker said the shooting was targeted, but not related to exortion. The investigation was handed off to IHIT.
IHIT said Dhaliwal’s name was released to the public in an effort to advance the investigation.
