Ridge Meadows RCMP is investigating after a pedestrian hit by a pickup on Monday morning, Jan. 12.
At approximately 8 a.m., police responded to a report of a collision involving a pickup truck and a youth pedestrian in the 10200 block of 242B Street.
Officers attended and learned that the pickup truck was travelling eastbound on 102 Avenue when it hit a 13-year-old female pedestrian crossing northbound at a marked crosswalk at 242B Street.
The female pedestrian was taken to hospital by emergency health services with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the pickup remained at the scene.
While the collision is still under investigation, a number of factors are being looked at including weather and road conditions at the time.
Anyone with more information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251 and quote file number 2026-750.
“Drivers and pedestrians are once again reminded to take extra precautions on our roadways, especially during this wet weather and during darker periods of the day when there is even less visibility,” said Insp. Martin Guay.
“Drivers need to drive relative to current conditions and pay extra attention in areas where there may be increased foot traffic. Pedestrians are reminded to dress to be seen and make eye contact with drivers before safely entering the roadway.”
Roads in the area were closed for some time but are now re-opened.
