Surrey firefighters find 1 person dead in Panorama Ridge house fire

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over an investigation after Surrey firefighters found a dead man inside a burning Panorama Ridge home Monday morning.

The blaze, which was reported shortly after 7 a.m. Monday (Jan. 12) in the 12700-block of 56 Avenue, had fully engulfed the home when Surrey Fire Service crews showed up.

Firefighters “arrived to find a large detached residential structure fully involved, with heavy fire and smoke … they advanced inside and conducted a search. Unfortunately, they did find one one person deceased inside the structure,” Surrey Fire Service assistant chief of operations Geoff McIntyre said.

More than 20 firefighters helped fight the second-alarm fire.

IHIT has now taken over the investigation and is working in partnership with SPS to complete priority investigative tasks.
