Dear Editor,
[RE: LETTER – Street trees are a waste of tax dollars, Jan. 10, The News]
I completely agree with letter writer John Turner when he speaks of Maple Ridge council wasting money.
Ten thousand trees will undoubtedly beautify boulevards, residential gardens, etc.
However, Maple Ridge has many more “issues” to deal with.
The fact that we are still “primitive” in regard to garbage/recycling has to be a “laughing-stock” with other municipalities in the Lower Mainland. While other areas have a three-bin system, we here still have to “sort” our recyclables for “the company” – pink bins, blue bins, yellow bags – how ridiculous in this day and age.
Our property taxes are almost extortion rate and yet we (the people) do the work.
Get with it Maple Ridge, give us three bins without raising our already higher-than-high property taxes.
