Just over a month ago , staff at the Maple Ridge’s BC SPCA shelter in Albion put out a call for help.
They put out a plea for donations for what they called their “Wish Tree,” encouraging animal lovers in the community to swing by, grab a tag off the tree, and return with the gift/s that would ultimately fulfill the wish of a puppy or kitten in need during the season.
“Come on by the shelter and maybe snag a cuddle from a lovely animal while you’re there,” shelter staff encouraged in their message to the public.
Well, turns out almost all the tags were stripped from the Christmas tree in the days leading up to the holidays, and the shelter was deluged with donations.
“A huge thank you to everyone who donated over the holidays,” said shelter staff.
“We were so pleased to see how many people wanted to support our shelter animals through their generous donations of toys, treats, cash, and even more.”
From Milk Bone treats to catnip, Temptations treats to endless stuffies, pet beds to scratch posts, chew toys to Cheez Whiz, donations of all kinds filled the lobby.
“Our animals are still thoroughly enjoying all the gifts,” the team noted several days into the new year.
