Kamloops RCMP is renewing its call for public assistance as investigators continue a homicide investigation concerning the death of a man in the city’s West End, and new information from police indicates they are looking into the victim’s potential use of dating sites.
Muhammad “Ash” Zafar was located in the West End neighbourhood on Monday, Jan. 6. Police responded to a home on Dalgleish Drive for a well-being call and located Zafar deceased inside the residence.
Investigators are now trying to piece together Zafar’s final movements as they examine the scene and uncover new evidence, the RCMP said in a media release Wednesday, Jan. 7.
“We are still asking anyone who had contact with Mr. Zafar between Saturday evening (Jan. 3) and late Sunday to reach out to investigators,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the Kamloops RCMP.
“This includes individuals who use men‑seeking‑men dating sites or apps and may have communicated with him, or with someone using his images or profile information.
“We are also appealing to anyone who noticed unusual behaviour in someone they know, such as unexplained injuries, sudden changes in routine, cancelled plans, or conduct that seemed out of character, as well as residents or visitors who observed suspicious activity in the Dalgleish Drive or West End area during that timeframe. Seemingly small details often produce significant outcomes, if something stood out to you, even for a moment, we need you to come forward,” McIntyre added.
The Kamloops RCMP also reminded the public to take precautions when meeting people through online platforms. Here are the tips they offered:
• Share your plans with a trusted friend or family member
• Arrange check‑ins before and after the meeting
• Meet in public places when possible
• Trust your instincts and leave if something feels unsafe
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250‑828‑3000 and reference file 2026‑388. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
