VIDEO: Woman killed crossing Lougheed Highway early this morning

Maple Ridge Mounties have confirmed one woman is dead after an early morning pedestrian incident on Lougheed Highway.

A section of the main thoroughfare through town was blocked for more than five hours on Monday, Jan. 5, while RCMP investigated a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred at about 5:30 a.m., just east of the Laity Street and Lougheed intersection.

The female pedestrian was transported to hospital by emergency health services, but police say she has since succumbed to her injuries.

The deadly collision occurred in the eastbound lanes, near the hospital grounds. It left both lanes going east shut down between Laity and 216 Streets, as well as one westbound lane for part of the morning.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service unit was called in to assist Ridge Meadows RCMP’s serious crime unit in the ongoing investigation.

The driver is speaking to police, and some witnesses have already talked with RCMP. Investigators are now looking for any other witnesses and/or anyone with dashcam footage to reach out to the Ridge Meadows RCMP at 604-463-6251, and quote file #2026-252.
